Bus Stop
TXT: Yoss PHOTO: rolando pujol
Unlike many big capitals, Havana’s bus stops are not standardized constructions, but rather highly unique works, often with an intrinsic esthetic value. It doesn’t matter that there is no written record of who designed or built them, whether they were certified architects or civil engineers. They tell a story of the urbanistic evolution of a more modern, less famous, but equally fascinating part of the city than the historic Havana Vieja. 23rd is the main artery in the central district of El Vedado, which after the Almendares bridge turns into 41st and crosses over Playa and Marianao. How many times a day does the average Havanan use that street? But, how many actually notice the bus stops? Ultra-modern and awesome, prefabricated and built in situ… come with us from La Rampa to Playa and discover an unforgettable, instructive visual journey.
