Club Naútico
TXT: DR. PASIÓN PHOTO: ROLANDO PUYOL
Founded in 1920 as an institution for Havana’s high society. In 1950, due to an increase in members, it was expanded under a project by architect Max Borges Recio (1953) making it one of the most fashionable casinos and yacht clubs at that time. Its interior holds a certain similarity to Tropicana’s crystal arches, also by Borges, but at the Club Naútico the series of vaults are joined by skylights, extending out in blue waves which end on a little beach. Although it is presently used as a workers’ club for several ministries, access may be granted upon request at the gate.
