The Cubadisco 2007 Awards were presented in May. The Grand Prize was shared by the following albums: Cinco Conciertos para piano y orquesta by Heitor Villa-Lobos, an impeccable work of research by Ulises Hernández, with participation by pianists Elvira Santiago, Roberto Urbay, Harold López Nussa and Patricio Malcolm with the National Symphonic Orchestra, and Akapelleando, by Sampling, a vocal group that revolutionized Cuban music almost two decades ago. Among the most interesting, the triumph of artists linked to the interactive project (Fusion: La Isla Milagrosa, by William Vivanco; Rap/Dance/Hip-Hop: A Diario, by Telmary Díaz) and the award for in situ recording (Jaime Canfux and Juan Demósthene for Trovarroco), which vindicates the documental value of the CD. Somewhat overdue in some cases, fairly predictable in others, the list of winners shows part of the diversity that adorns the Cuban music scene now and then.
