More about Espacios
TXT: YOSS
Founded in 1998 by architect Vilma Bartolomé and designers Radian Valdés and Maikel Sánchez, the Group Espacios brings together visual art and urbanism, architecture and interior design aiming at a better city conceived as unity of form and function.
With their painstaking computer finish, characteristic crepuscular light and an absence of human figures that lends an almost oneiric air, the digital graphics of their projects are works of art in themselves that barely need the recognition of completion. But soon, the Malecón will be embellished with five cafeterias designed by the group each one of whose architecture and design has been inspired by the aesthetic of a particular Cuban artist.
These enterprising creators have not stuck to the shoreline. During the architecture biennale of 2006, they presented two of their projects that involve intervention on existing Vedado buildings.
BOOKSHOP “EL ATENEO”
One of the best stocked bookshops in Havana would see its role as a cultural centre increased with the conversion of the second floor for the sale of records. The interior décor is Modernist, especially that of the hatch linking the two floors.
