Ernesto Leal starts from reality but maintains a light manipulation of it. With a change of focus or perspective he changes it not into the unreal but the abstract. A proposal like Identidad imposible (Impossible identity) is based on the fact that the right side of our body is not equal to the left. The artist takes each side and reproduces them in a mirror thus creating two very distinct people although the original can still be perceived form the common likeness. He uses the absurd as a strategy to question the essence and appearance of things.
