Corner: VISTA ALEGRE, CALLE PRIMERA Y 296, SANTA FE

There is a corner that filled my childhood and adolescent with delight and that I still love revisiting even though it’s far from the heart of Havana. On Vista Alegre corner, named for the cafeteria that is still there today, two streets met: Primera and 296, the two main streets in Santa Fe, that country beach or seaside village as some call it, situated to the west of our capital and where my life as a writer began. I remember the sweets they sold in the cafeteria called capitolios, and also the chocolate shakes and a space of sea and rock on the other side of Primera called el Pocito. That corner was a centre of fun, crowded, vibrant, boisterous and always full of surprises and mysteries.
