The 2006 international Cuban recording fair recapitulated a year marked more by diversity than quantity. The exploration of little-tread areas, work by younger artists, traditions and the unstoppable process of fusion in almost every domestic recording production have opened up a space on the margin of recognition. The Grand Prizes went to the well-established Chucho Valdés, who did a personal piano review of Cuban songs, and to the debutantes of the group Interactivo, with its indiscriminate mix of rhythm and melodies, like global music emanating from Cuban streets.
