Celebrating drummer and teacher Ruy López Nussa’s 30 years of artistic life was the pretext to organize a percussion party at the Amadeo Roldán theatre. Friends and pupils, colleagues from various generations all got up on stage to jam with the guest of honour in a concert that laid out the main artistic principles developed by Ruy in three decades of work. From the intoxicating clave and guaguancó rumba to the songs of Santiago Feliú and Yusa, and from pieces for distinct percussion instruments (dirges of drums, tympani, boxes) to the re-enactment of his old group Estado de Ánimo, the main thread of the evening were the rhythms of Cuba, traditional drum beats with touches of rock, jazz and funk...
