More than just a band, Interactivo defines a creative movement currently bearing fruit in Havana and beyond. The concept does not recognise passports or permits and looks to union rather than generic sectarianism. Interactivo talks of growth and combinations and of generating without barriers. It is a meeting of young creators from very different backgrounds, making the music they instinctively feel and need.
Bringing together prestigious musicians, Interactivo lays emphasis on instrumental discourse without ignoring the lyrics. Sometimes the sound is intelligent Timba, giving a nod to that style’s codes. At other times it is a first class funk ensemble. Their work contains strong elements of jazz and rock while their vocals favour Son and the cadences of hip hop in a strange, attractive mixture.
Unlike other groups, Interactivo is formed each time according to the needs of each piece and the availability of members. So it can take on a jazz band format with brass and string or can become a small combo around a precise rhythm section. Each singer comes with their own interpretive personality. The result is a collective creation the whole of which is more important than the parts...
