Pavel Giroud
FILM DIRECTOR

One of the youngest generation of Cuban film makers, his works move without bias from populist to the most élitist references. He has been responsible for a large number of video clips, various documentaries and short and full-length features. He gained recognition as the director of Flash, the first of the three shorts that made up Tres veces dos (Three times Two) (2004), when it won the Silver Zenith tape in the best first work class at the 28th Montreal World Film Festival. In 2006 he premiered his first sólo film The Age of the Peseta included in the Toronto Film Festival selection. Hard to categorise according to the protocols of criticism, this designer and creator who also paints and composes adheres to a discourse that is at times introspective and iconoclastic and that avoids those folkloric touches that are so common in Cuban audiovisual tradition. Pavel reassures or disturbs, but he does not go unnoticed.
